Adele offers something different in today’s ever-evolving pop economy – songs that are intimate and straightforward that anyone can listen to together with their grandma! She stands as an exceptional example.
But how much does she make?
Hometown Glory
Hometown Glory was initially released as a limited edition vinyl single by Pacemaker Recordings in 2007. Due to high download sales, however, Hometown Glory was later reissued as the third and final single from 19 on 21 July 2008.
Adele had already established herself as one of the premier chroniclers of heartbreak by the time she started work on her second album. Inspired by personal experiences and producer Paul Epworth’s production skills, “Rolling in the Deep” would become one of 2011’s signature songs and serve as an emotional bookend to 19.
“Someone Like You” is one of her most emotionally stirring songs, displaying both her powerful lyricism and unmistakable vocal range. It served as the theme song to NBC’s Olympic coverage for 2022 as well as being used during pairs and team free skate events of 2018 World Figure Skating Championships.
Chasing Pavements
Adele sang Chasing Pavements about her experience following a failed relationship. It became one of 2008’s biggest hits and catapulted Adele into international stardom.
The video for “We Can” depicts two perspectives of a car accident; one from bystander level and the other from above. After emerging from the wreckage, two lovers play out their relationship until one discovers another one has taken place – at first seemingly happy together but when discovered to have had someone else, he becomes angry.
This song stands out for its use of repetition and its unique chromatic harmony, while also being more complex than your average song in terms of chords and melody – something which can be measured with above-average scores for Chord Complexity, Melodic Complexity and Chord Progression Novelty.
Cold Shoulder
Cold Shoulder have made quite an impression since their No Echo debut a few years ago, rapidly building their profile in Toronto’s hardcore scene and raising their profile within it. Today they announce a major milestone: signing to Southern Californian label New Age Records to release their sophomore album Primal Fury.
Central Cee has never been one to shy away from confronting tough subjects head on, as evidenced on “Cold Shoulder,” his album‘s title track and an introspective look at how people treat musicians once they hit it big in music. Central Cee addresses being let down by those closest to you while feeling like it’s your fault for having believed them at all.
Adele sings her hit single Cold Shoulder in a dark room filled with melting ice statues that seem to look back with looks of despair, while its music features above-average scores for Chord Complexity, Melodic Complexity and Novelty/Chord Progression Novelty as well as having a unique bass melody. The music video for Cold Shoulder can be found below.
Love Story
Adele isn’t shy to express her personal struggles through song, from writing in her diary to singing about those who’ve hurt her heart. Her mezzo-contralto voice can turn even mundane topics into profound lyrics; her tunes often draw from past relationships.
British singer-songwriter Estelle first began garnering public notice in the early 2000s when she started recording demos and uploading them onto MySpace. Music execs soon noticed her talent, encouraging her to attend Brit School in Croydon where she studied acting and songwriting.
Adele has since had several public relationships and once married Simon Konecki; with whom she shares their son Angelo. Since 2016, she has been publicly dating NBA agent Rich Paul. However, before Rich Paul, Adele was in contact with several men she never named on her albums who helped inspire some of Adele’s finest work. Here is a glimpse at these men.
